With great sadness, we've learned of the passing on 28 April 2021 of Chicago Chapter AAM John Hughes, 94, of Geneva, IL. John served as an Infantry NCO with the 515th PIR (13th Airborne Div) and the 504th PIR (82nd Airborne Div) from 1945-46. He earned the Parachutist Badge and completed Ranger-Pathfinder School.
John had a successful civilian career, earning his CPA and starting his own CPA firm that ran from 1967-80. He later worked for Fannie May Candy Shops Inc and Archibald Candy Corporation from 1980-91, where he eventually became CEO. In 1991, John and wife Jeanne founded the John E. and Jeanne T. Hughes Foundation.
John has been a very strong supporter of the Chicago Chapter and the greater Airborne and Infantry communities over the years. He has made generous donations to the Airborne & Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville, NC, and in 2011 was awarded the prestigious Order of St. Maurice by the National Infantry Association.
John will be greatly missed.
