508th PIR Activated (1942)

ON THIS DATE IN AIRBORNE HISTORY...20 OCT 1942 -- 508TH PIR ACTIVATED.

Fury From The Sky was activated on 20 Oct 1942 at Camp Blanding, FL, under the command of LTC Roy Lindquist. After extensive training in England, the 508th was assigned on 13 Mar 1944 to the 82nd Airborne Division and then jumped into Normandy on 06 Jun 1944 as part of Operation Overlord.

The 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 508th are currently assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC.
